Staff Biography
Angel Coleman
Executive Director
Angel Coleman holds a master’s
degree in Urban Studies from Temple University and a
bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Eastern Michigan
University. Her
career mission is to improve the quality of life for residents in urban
communities. She
has done this through her work in entrepreneurship development,
creating high school to college gateway programs, decreasing the
digital divide, providing summer and after school recreational outlets,
community organizing, providing technical assistance to merchants and
more. From
pulling together community stakeholders to provide joint programming in
difficult economic times to being selected twice as the community
partner in a University/Community collaborative program funded by the
United States Department of Justice, she has always taken a
community-based, cooperative approach to reach her goals. Ms
Coleman came on board with the Girard Coalition, Inc in 2006 as
community organizer and focused on supporting the revitalization of the
Girard Avenue commercial corridor by bringing business owners, city
agencies and other community stakeholders together to achieve their
common goals. As
Executive Director of the Coalition, her desire is to partner with
these same stakeholders to improve the quality of life in the Girard
Avenue community through business growth and job creation.
Ty Hulse
Business Development Manager
Ty Hulse holds a Master’s Degree
in Business with a focus in Marketing, as will as a B.A. in Research
Psychology, and an Associate’s Degree in Animation and Design. He
came on board with the Girard Coalition, Inc in 2008 to run a strategic
business development program. Ty
supports Girard Avenue merchants through organizing within business
associations, providing technical assistance in marketing, event
planning, promotions, securing funds, website development and
connecting them with various resources to support their growth.
Before
coming to the Girard Coalition Ty worked as an independent marketing
and design consultant for a number of businesses and Non-Profits in the
State of Washington. As a consultant he worked with organizations to
find ways to reach out to the public on a tight budget. As part of this
he worked with them on their public relations strategy, advertisements,
and advised them on ways to improve their website and other design
materials. His work led him to be asked to write an article on methods
of marketing independent films by On Screen Magazine. Prior
to becoming a business consultant he was a children’s book
illustrator for the Papahana Kaiapuni (Hawaiian Language Schools) in
Hilo, Hawaii.” At Papahana Kaiapuni Ty created the art for
over a dozen children’s books along with many posters, and
educational presentations.
